Improvements to Rooms 14 & 15
Over the next holidays some improvements and maintenance is being carried out in the two rooms.
Firstly a new carpet will be layed. This will help with warmth and hopefully reduce noise.
Secondly, in line with the much increased learning collaboration between the two rooms we will have an internal access way cut between the two spaces much like rooms 17& 18. Miss Keys and I are much looking forward to the advantages these changes will bring about to the teaching and learning of our students.

Room 14 & 15 Newsletter 2017
10th February 2017
Dear Parents and
Caregivers,
Just a note to let you
know how things are progressing in our extended class whanau and some
organisational reminders.
General
The classes have
settled very well into their various collaborative routines and there is a
happy and contented feel to the place. Miss Keys has joined our team this year
and has come from Shirley Intermediate. She has strengths in P.E. and literacy,
you may spot her running around Hagley Park training for a half marathon! Mr Pinker has been at the school for a number
of years is married to Miss de Their and has two high school aged children. He
has strengths in music, likes catching fish and spends a fair bit of time
playing chauffeur and spectator to his children’s sporting activities. Room 14
and 15 will be working and very closely together to utilise the various skills
of not only the teachers but also the students.
Camp
Camp this year will be at
the Waipara Riverside Park. The dates are 13-15 of March. The cost will be $140.
It sounds expensive but it includes all activities, instructors and catered
food. If you wish to “drip-feed” some of
this amount off that’s fine, please contact the office.
Homework
In
the next couple of weeks, your child will come home with their homework notebook on a Monday. This book also has reminders and general
class information in it, so it is important that you sight it. Chores and
activities after school also count as homework e.g. swimming or music lessons
or even helping with the evening’s meal. These you can list on the “homework
and reminders” page.
Your child will have a
list of spelling words and a family of number facts to learn by Friday in this
notebook. These lists are issued on a Monday and re-tested on Friday. Your
child will also be expected to read for 20 minutes each evening and spend time
during the week keeping up with current events by watching the news with a
parent or going to the Kiwi Kids News website www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz.
In addition to this the
children will have various activities to complete which involves the web-site -
www.studyladder.co.nz.
It is not our intention
for homework to be an onerous activity for families but something that extends
learning which is already happening in the classroom.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you
have any queries or concerns. gary.pinker@parkview.school.nz
georgia.keys@parkview.school.nz
Best Regards
Gary Pinker and Georgia
