Check out what Lucas did for his calendar art!! Cool work Lucas!!
He iti hoki te mokoroa nāna i kakati te kahikatea. The mokoroa (huhu grub) may be small, but it cuts through the mighty Kahikatea tree.

This week we have been studying renewable energy sources.
We have been constructing solar powered robots, windmills, helicopters and boats. Luckily we had a sunny day and they all worked.

On Wednesday 13th May we had our school cross country. Amazingly we had 13 children from Room 15 going to the East Zones Cross Country. We are so proud of these people. The class had to run 2.4 km at the local reserve.

Blue Skies Camp-2015
The class has just come back from a great camp at Blue Skies. My special thanks to all the tremendous help we had from parents for this outing.
The class performed very well during the week overcoming many challenges and got to know one another in new ways.
My thanks to Mr Paul Williams for all the photos included in this slide show. You can click on the slideshow to enlarge it on your computer. If you would like full copies of any of the photos just contact me and I will e-mail them to you.

A New Year a Great New Class!! 2015
We have had a great start to the year. The class has been happy and keen to learn. Don't hesitate to come in and visit us, we have some really great things to share with you. I have reprinted the letter I sent home a couple of days ago concerning homework and other organisational matters.
Dear Parents and
Caregivers,
I trust you all had a
restful break over the recent holidays. My family and I made the most of the
great and not so great weather and have recently been spending more time down
at the beach. In fact we have run into a number of Parkview people down there
which has been great. This is just a note to let you know how things are
progressing in class and some organisational reminders.
General
The class has settled
very well into the various routines of class life and there is a happy and
contented feel to the place.
Camp
Camp this year will at
Blue Skies in Kaiapoi. The dates are 11-13 of March. Because we use our own
transport to get there the cost will be $90, sounds expensive I know but many
school camps these days cost well over $100.
If you wish to “drip-feed” some of this amount off that’s fine. If you
wish to come on camp please make yourself known to me.
Homework
Please
check and sign your child’s homework
notebook sometime during the week (we will start using them next week). This book also has reminders and general
class information in it, so it is important that you sight it. Chores and activities after school also count
as homework e.g. swimming or music lessons or even helping with the evening’s
meal. These you can list on the
“homework and reminders” page.
Your child will have a
list of spelling words and a family of number facts to learn by Friday. These lists are issued on Monday and
re-tested on Friday. Your child will also be expected to read for 20 minutes
each evening. Also watch at least 3 news broadcasts during the week or read the
paper together or check out www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz
either which way is fine.
In addition to this the
children will have various activities to complete which involves the web-site -
www.studyladder.co.nz. There will
also be information and class happenings on the class blog at http://room15parkview.blogspot.co.nz/
(this of course can also be found at the school website). It is not my
intention for homework to be an onerous activity for families but something
that extends learning which is already happening in the classroom. More
information will be given on this at the three-way conferences later this
month. Don’t hesitate to seek me out if you have any concerns or queries. My
e-mail is gary.pinker@parkview.school.nz
Best Regards
Gary Pinker
